My name is Jenna Leigh. I am a mom of two, wife to a supportive military husband, and a health nut!
A little bit about my story is that I am a young mom who was engaged at 19, married by 20, and had our first kid by age 21. I got married in the midst of going to college. In fact, I completed my degree program about two weeks before I gave birth to our first child.
Now we are expecting a second child, and are travelling around the United States as my husband and I explore new career paths.
As a young mom, I am also particularly passionate about the motherhood-focused topics such as the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods and love to share and exchange motherhood tips and tricks with other mommas. I know first hand that motherhood can be difficult at times and very rewarding at others, so I am so excited to share with you all that I have and am learning as I go throughout this mothering journey.
BEHIND THE BLOG NAME
As you may or may not have noticed, the name of my blog is “Momma in the Mountains”.
I chose this name for a few reasons that I believe are central to the purpose of this blog. And so, I’d love to share them with you here!
Reason 1: Real life is indeed a mountain.
At times, there are beautiful vistas overlooking the most stunning sights. Like when I see my child uncontrollably laughing while being tickled by her daddy. Oh how I live for those wonderful moments!
And then in other seasons of life, we struggle to climb a rock scramble and end up scraping our knees (or worse, breaking a bone). Think postpartum anxiety, financial troubles, social isolation… We’ve all been there too.
But the good news is that we aren’t alone.
Not only do I believe that Jesus is with us, there is also a large community of other mommas and parents out there who are cheering you on. Cheering you on in your marriage, your career, your parenting.
I personally want to succeed in all those areas of my life. And I feel that I have something to share so that you may as well.
That is why I will share with you all what I am learning along the way up my own mountainside! Hopefully, you will find it helpful and encouraging for your own journey!!!
Reason 2: “Momma” is an endearing term
I am a very gentle person and not until I became a parent did I learn this. The world had hardened me. All the insults, “critical criticism”, and not-so-nice jokes thrown my way made me forget that fact.
But becoming a “momma” made me realize that we really do need to be gentle with ourselves, and our families especially! Just as Jesus is gentle with me, I desire to be gentle with my children and spouse.
I am not always perfect at this, but I hope that I can truly earn the title of “momma”, which is simply a loving and colloquial term that children would use towards their mothers.
